A Day in the Life of a Diagnostic Radiographer

Hi, I am a student in Diagnostic Imaging. When I get my diploma, I would be able to work in hospitals or clinics as a radiographer. This job offers a lot of specialties as traditional X-ray, ultrasound, fluoroscopy and more. This is why every day in this field is different. Also, you never know who's going to show into your exam room and that's make every day so special. I choose this article of the University Health Broad because it gives a good explanation  that each day in the life of a Radiographer is never the same.

Most of the patients are going to go in the Radiology department during their visit at the hospital and see a Diagnostic Imaging technologist. His job is to take the best images as possible of the human body using different devices in order to the radiologist give the best diagnosis he can. The Radiology technologist is trained in multiple areas so that he's able to manipulate the devices and understand what he is doing. A Radiographer can work in X-rays, fluoroscopy, CT scans, MRI scans, angiography, ultrasonography and more. The biggest area of work for Radiographers is X-rays because it count for about 70-80% of all exams. Diagnostic technologist will x-ray patients who might be intern (who's already in the hospital) or extern (who comes only for his exam). In some cases, the technologist might take the portable X-ray machine to go in the bedroom of a patient who is too ill to move into the exam room. Another special case is when the Radiographer go into the surgery room to assist the surgeon and takes radiography of the patient during the operation. Something that most of radiographer likes is the human contact with the patient. The feeling of helping someone to recover is really nice. Thereafter, every day on this job is different and you are learning new things each day. You never know what is going to happen when you arrive in the morning, this job is so unpredictable. Sometimes you need to use your imagination to think about the best way to place the patient for the X-ray because they can't place themself in the good position due to their injuries.
In Quebec, to become a Radiographer, you need to go to College and get your diploma in Diagnostic Imaging. With some experience, you can specialize in other areas like MRI or ultrasonography and more.
